In Nepal, KN had started the Blue Schools Program with 4 schools from Kaski District since 2013 with support of IRHA. Till now 5 schools from Kaski District Blue Schools have been successfully executed. The Blue Schools Program is an initiative of the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA). It was created to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Goals formulated by the United Nations and aims to reduce the number of schools in the world without access to drinking water or basic sanitation facilities.
Kanchan Nepal is a NGO based in Pokhara that provides technical support and management advice to district and VDC based initiatives in water supply and sanitation in several districts in the Western Region.
Its staff have gained expertise in government programmes implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, and as practitioners in WASH and water resources management for agencies such as Helvetas and UNICEF. It currently supports World Vision International in Kaski district, the World Health Organization in the promotion of water safety plans in the Western Region, works with the DDC-Kaski on promoting total sanitation and assists in the promotion of rainwater harvesting.
Currently KN is associated with International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA), Geneva to execute Blue Schools Program in Nepal since 2013. KN has also provided technical assistance to Foundation Tashi Delek Nepal in Solukhumbu District to repair and upgrade rural water supply schemes in the Mude area and help the community to make these more climate change resilient.
